  3. This Cathedral was completed in 1848, designed by the architect William Thomas. It was started by the first bishop of Toronto, Fr. Michael Power in 1845. It toke a while to get the funds up to start it. John Elmsley a convert to catholicism, was a great benefactor. He headed the building fund and contributed much time and talent to saving the enterprize from receivership. Bishop Power died a year before completion in 1847, but his work was carried on by administrators. This is one of the most beautiful churchs in the Canada.
